Scent Blending Recipes are carefully selected recipes of individual candles that when burning together, create their own unique, blended scent experience.

To maximize your fragrant experience, use the exact sizes and quantities noted in each recipe – a slight alteration can be like adding salt when you needed sugar.

FIRST: Arrange the candles on a heat-safe surface with the largest in the middle and smaller candles interspersed throughout. For votive and Tealight candles, use a holder to protect the surface.

SECOND: Place each candle approximately two inches apart in your arrangement.

THIRD: Light each candle and let the aromas mingle for at least 30 minutes to create your new fragrance experience.

Fruit Smoothie - single serving

I bought a bunch of strawberries really cheap this year, washed & cut up & then put them in the freezer. Here's what I'm going to do with them:

1/2 cup berries
1 Tbs. orange juice concentrate
1 Tbs. sugar
3/4 cup milk

Put everything in the blender & mix it up until no berry chunks remain. If its too thick, just add extra milk a little at a time.

Gold Canyon Pillars

Gold Canyon pillars will soon be gone :( At the end of April, Gold Canyon pillars will no longer be in the catalog & they will stop making them. So, if you love our pillars its time to stock up! If you've purchased a pillar candle, I thought I'd give a brief lesson on how they burn since they are different than the jar candles.

Our pillar candles have a beautiful design on the outside that you'll want to keep looking nice. For that reason, our pillars are designed to burn down the middle, leaving a "shell" of wax around the outside. A couple of things to keep in mind in order to keep this pretty shell. . .

keep away from drafts while burning
keep wick trimmed to specified length
make sure the surface you are using is flat
remove the ribbon around the candle when burning since it can cause "hot spots"

Green Week -- Everyday Ideas to be Environmentally Friendly

Here's some ideas that might fit into your lifestyle, save you some money & be good for the environment as well:

One of my favorites is to use re-useable shopping bags when I go grocery shopping. Not only is it good for the environment but its so helpful to me since it keeps the groceries so much more orderly than using those plastic bags that slip all over the place & let my food roll around the car! I even got a small savings from the grocery store on my bill the last time I went because I brought my own bags!

Cook with a slow cooker to reduce the electricity you would use by cooking with the oven & other ideas, here.
Let the sunlight in! During the day, open your blinds instead of turning on lights. I think this not only saves energy but when I open my blinds it is a mood booster as well! See other cheap ways to go green, here.

Green Week Continues with Green Cleaning Tips!

I remember helping my Great Grandma with house cleaning one summer . . . she used vinegar for everything & it worked! I love the idea of non-chemical cleaning, but my husband isn't particularly fond (okay, he hates) of the smell of vinegar. But he loves the smell of Gold Canyon's Homeology products.

Homeology are plant based cleaning products that use only naturally occuring ingredients such as coconut-based cleaners, purified water, and essential oils. Click here for some of the posts I've done on our cleaners in the past on the many uses for Homeology cleaners.

And here's some other ideas for being environmentally friendly while you're cleaning house with homeology products:

Use newspaper to clean glass & mirrors
Use a microfiber mop with our floor cleaner - no waste-water to throw away & you throw the microfiber cloth in the wash along with a load of towels to clean it & re-use it
Instead of using new or disposable cloths, use old cotton t-shirts that can be cut up into cleaning rags

Green Recipes

Do you make special green food for St. Patrick's Day? I grew up having Corned Beef & Cabbage on St. Patrick's Day & will be making it for my family this week. Just use a head of cabbage. Cut into pieces and boil until tender. After straining the water, add 1 can of corned beef and mix it all together until the corned beef is broken up and mixed in with the cabbage. Very simple & very good!
